The US critical minerals list grew to 60. Fifteen of them are Colombia's problem now.
In November 2025 the United States finalised a revised List of Critical Minerals, expanding it from 50 commodities to 60. Copper, lead, silver, phosphate, potash, silicon, boron, rhenium, uranium and metallurgical coal were added.
Colombia keeps its own list of strategic minerals. Fifteen commodities appear on both. Copper leads them, and Colombia sits on the same Andean belt as Chile and Peru with a fraction of the drilling.
The gap is not geological. It is that almost none of the technical work done in Colombia ever reaches the people who decide whether to fund a project. Resource statements are prepared to satisfy an authority, approved, and filed. A report nobody can read cannot underwrite anything.
